Over all this is a pretty straight forward page. With the exception of the Clown…the balding guy on the left. But I’ll get to him in a moment.
The identity of his new sidekick is a secret that is why his face is in shadow. The second panel I have all of the contour lines finished and the outline for black areas. I mentioned in the past I found doing contours first and then the feathering and smaller details last helps to get the page done a bit faster

Creating Comics Panel by Panel Freaks & Gods Page 7 by Chris DreierPART 01 Here is page 7 Giuseppe (D'Elia) sent me. I like the attack in top panel and the bottom is really nice too. The round panel with a close-up of Atoman’s eye is very much like page 3 where...
Page 6 is a splash page revealing a giant robot. The first thing I did was put some perspective rulers in so I could ink the background buildings. This first image shows the rulers’ placement. The horizontal line is the horizon line and the other two sets the vanishing points. As you can see the points are far off the page…that’s why I have the image so zoomed out.
I get all my freelance work as an inker. However, I color my creator-owned comics like Freaks & Gods. For this particular book…Tales of the Dark Tunnel I choose to go with a color palette that closely resembles the 64 colors available to comics back in the 70’s – early 80’s.
Now we’re on page 5 of the Tales of the Dark Tunnel Exclusive comic. We start with the pencils where a tank is transforming into a giant robot (because they do that). I liked this in-between look. So I used the “polygon selection” tool and selected all the black areas and filled it black. I used a tone to add shape and shading and simple line work. Overall, it turned out nice; it has a feeling of movement which is what I wanted to convey.

Flame Girl blasting the Octopus with everything she has! Her hands and flames were inked on a separate layer so I can change its color during the flatting stage.
You can see that Giuseppe (penciler) drew the lines in her hands going down to the center of her palms. I placed a”radial line” ruler off to the right so every feathered line would point in that direction. Ya know… a blast. Also, keeping in mind the single light source. Which Giuseppe did a great job in the pencils.

What’s the purpose for feathering? Primarily it’s there to soften black areas or show shape or form all from a light source.
Creating Comics Panel by Panel Freaks & Gods Page 2 by Chris DreierI’m working on page two of an Exclusive comic book called “Tales of the Dark Tunnel: Magno, Flame Girl, Atoman”. If you’re wondering what happened to page one, well, I was super excited when the...
